The Brief : To create a unique courtyard that flows from the interior spaces of the house. The garden is shallow across the house so zoning to break up the space for lounging under cover. Privacy and treatment of the high boundaries was important.
The Solution: Bespoke pergola with shade that rolls back for more light. Decorative laser cut screens zone the garden and act as a focal point to divide the garden and distract from the boundaries. The screens are backlit at night and the shadows they create add another dimension to the scheme. Materials are pale to bounce light around the space making it feel spacious, large format porcelain paving with Millboard composite a deck that is soft underfoot. We clad the boundaries with honey coloured cedar privacy panels that warms the space.
